BUSINESS IDEA OF THE YEAR - AN UNQUOTED COMPETITION

Welcome to Unquoted's new competition aimed at identifying winning business ideas. The Unquoted community has long supported entrepreneurs through our Unquoted Angels and the support of the Entrepreneurs Club. Through these close links to various business angel clubs we will then try and raise the necessary funds for the winning idea/company.

Business ideas may manifest themselves either as new ideas or existing early stage businesses. Even if you have an idea and think it is a bit far fetched we would love to hear it. The best five ideas we receive over the next three months will be added to the next issue of our magazine and placed on this page in place of the five ideas that we have received below. We look forward to hearing your ideas and hopefully we will be successful in bringing an aspiring entrepreneur's ambitions to the market.

How the Competition works

Every issue of Unquoted Magazine will feature the top 5 best ideas which the Unquoted team will select from all the submitted entries. These ideas will also be put up on our website under the new competition menu on the left hand menu bar.
We will then give our readers and users of our websites the opportunity to vote on which idea they consider the most suitable.
Every issue of UQ magazine we will announce the winner, from the previous issue, which will go through to the final (held in a year's time).

The Prizes (for ideas and voters)

The finalist with the most votes will be awarded with an offer of funding to take the idea through to development.

Every quarter we select one voter at random and award them with a bottle champagne.

Voting

To vote simply select which of the five ideas below you think looks the most promising and then press vote. You will be asked to fill in your contact details on the next page so that we can select a winner at the end of each set of ideas.

	London Overground Coach Service Summer is fast approaching and anyone slaving in to work on the London underground will be dreading the commute. Unfortunately there are few alternatives for the masses and things look set to be exceptionally bad this year with record temperatures predicted. Busses provide an alternative but these journeys can be as painful as everyone is trying frantically to stay above ground. The idea behind the London Overground Coach Service is simple. Commuters will be able to ride in the air-conditioned comfort of a business class coach from various destinations outside of the central zone. Possible routes include Clapham – Waterloo – Bank and Paddington – Oxford Circus – Victoria. Prices will be £15 per ticket which will include free coffee, tea, water or a fruit smoothie.
	Token Vending Machine An idea for all seasons but one with particular use in the lead up to Christmas. Very simply the vending machine will be able to produce will be able to produce gift vouchers in £5 denominations. Payment will be by either cash or credit card. As a follow on to this idea the machine will also be stocked with birthday and other relevant gift cards.
	Gastro Pub/Farmers Market Gastro pubs are nothing new but this business is slightly different. The idea is set up to purchase country pubs with attached outbuildings. The outbuildings will be converted into a location for a farmers’ market. Farmers from the surrounding area will be invited to take up stalls and draw people to the area. The market can generate huge turnover for the local area while also providing a valuable revenue stream for the landlord. The pub will be converted into a gastro style pub that sells local produce at reasonable prices and should draw in the people who attend the market.
	Portable Beer Tap A classic gimmick of the future that all boys and men will want. This simple device can be run off battery power, plugged into car lighters or plugged in at home maximising the number of environments it can be used. This contraption will hopefully end the misery inflicted on all those students who sit around in parks all summer long complaining about warm flat lager. Hopefully these vital hours doing research will be much more enjoyable. The device can be used to chill mini kegs of beer, cans and bottles. All that will be required now is some mildly offensive music and the summer will fly by.
	Portable Chelsea Clasp Bag thieves are always on the lookout for an easy target and more and more are searching city establishments for there next victim. Many coffee houses have brought in Chelsea clasps to make there customers feel more at ease about their bags. This idea aims to tap into these safety fears. By creating a clasp that can be attached to any table top hopefully people will be less worried about there personal belongings and be able to enjoy themselves more.
